Journalist receives threats prior to elections in Veracruz, Mexico

"A few hours before the beginning of the silent period priors to elections [...] for mayoral candidates in [the Mexican state of] Veracruz [on May 29], journalist Raymundo García García, a contributor to [the newspaper] El Mundo de Orizaba, was the target of anonymous threats. The intimidations, which were also directed at his family, were made through a false profile on social media. They accused him of defaming several candidates for the municipal presidency of Ixtaczoquitlán.

The publication was disseminated in two Facebook groups where political issues are shared and where the electoral race has become increasingly aggressive. [...] The text also reveals personal data of the journalist, his wife and children, including names and address.

Given the seriousness of the incident, Raymundo García announced that he has already initiated legal action for authorities to investigate and take action in this attack on his person and his family."
