Journalist who confronted Mexican president at press conference denounces threats

“Journalist Stephanie Palacios, correspondent for news agency Sputnik, said that she has received threats through her social media accounts after she confronted [Mexican] President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for alleged sanctions against journalists for their questions at the [morning press conference known as] la mañanera.

After receiving intimidating messages and threats on her social media accounts which referred to her physical appearance and hair color, and suggested that she ‘should go to therapy,’ the journalist for the international agency filed a complaint with the Mexico City Attorney General's Office for discrimination. It's also against anyone who provokes or incites hatred or violence against her.

In view of this situation, the organization Article 19 warned that these threats against the journalist 'highlight the serious risk faced by women journalists in the exercise of their work.'”
