"The National Association of Journalists (CNP, for its Spanish acronym) of Venezuela has made an urgent call for the release of 16 press workers detained in the context of political instability following the elections held in July last year. These elections gave a disputed victory to President Nicolás Maduro and, as a result, left a context of turmoil and repression, particularly towards the media.
The CNP issued a message through its account in X, where it highlighted ‘the courage of those who inform with truth in the face of adversity,' referring to the challenges these professionals face in a country where press freedom is, according to the association, ‘under siege.’ In this unwavering climate of censorship and control, 16 journalists and press workers remain arbitrarily imprisoned according to CNP reports."
