Journalists from El Salvador facing a 'gag' law go to the Supreme Court of Justice

“The Association of Journalists of El Salvador (APES) and the Cristosal organization went on April 19 to the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) to try to reverse a package of reforms that in their opinion 'criminalizes' the press for reporting on gangs. This is a last resort before appearing before international bodies.

‘It is very important to set this precedent. Our expectations are limited, given that it is a spurious Constitutional Chamber' and 'we have to exhaust options at the national courts before proceeding to other types of international courts,' the president of the APES, César Castro Fagoaga, said at a press conference.”
