Journalists in Bogotá and Cali attacked during Civic Day marches

During marches called by Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who declared Tuesday, March 18, a Civic Day, attacks against journalists were reported in the cities of Bogotá and Cali.

In Bogotá, a CityTV news crew, part of El Tiempo’s news network, was attacked by a group of masked individuals while covering the marches live. The attackers threw paint at the TV camera. According to one of the journalists, this happened as they were recording alleged acts of vandalism during the protest. The team was forced to leave the demonstration.

In Cali, a crew from the local outlet CW+ Noticias was surrounded by a group of protesters who verbally attacked them. Videos captured the moment one protester threatened to physically assault a journalist.
