"This Thursday [Nov. 2], the Roundtable for the Safety of Journalists of Paraguay, which brings together communicators and representatives of State institutions, urged Congress to approve a bill for the protection and safety of reporters and human rights defenders in the country.
'In the Legislative branch, a bill is being discussed that aims to guarantee the safe exercise of journalism. It is urgent that the study advance and that a law be passed on the subject,' said this organization created in 2017, in a statement released on the occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.
Last April, the Senate Human Rights Commission presented the bill 'On the protection and security of journalists and human rights defenders,' which is currently in the Legislature."
