"The Foundation for Press Freedom [FLIP, by its Spanish acronym] is alerting the public of a serious escalation of intimidation against Dubán García, director of the Al Día Noticias newscast, and Hamilton Obando, cameraman and producer for the same media outlet in Mocoa, [in the Colombian department of] Putumayo. In recent days, a plot to assassinate them has come to light, in addition to direct threats that constitute an imminent risk.
The journalists have been harassed and forced to [disseminate content] by both Frente Carolina Ramírez, part of Estado Mayor Central, and Comandos de Frontera, illegal armed groups vying for territorial control in the department. Despite the magnitude of these events and the evident danger they face, the institutional response has been insufficient and disproportionate to the level of risk, leaving them in a situation of absolute vulnerability and sending an alarming message about the lack of guarantees for the practice of journalism in contexts of armed conflict.

Recently, according to information received by the journalists, an anonymous source had warned of a concrete plan to assassinate them. According to reports, the plan has already been given the green light. Furthermore, there have been warnings of possible surveillance and monitoring of García and Obando's daily lives."
