"[Reporters Without Borders, RSF] found that the challenges facing journalists in the Amazon can be grouped into three categories:
direct violence against journalists — in the form of threats, assaults and prosecution;
structural precariousness and the lack of resources affecting community radio stations, local newspapers, and Indigenous media networks, which creates inequalities in news coverage and weakens editorial independence;
the spread of disinformation, which exploits these weaknesses to confuse local populations and society at large."
