Journalists of digital magazine Gato Encerrado denounce slow investigation of Pegasus case in El Salvador

"As part of the investigation in the Pegasus case, journalists from Gato Encerrado were summoned by the Attorney General's Office (FGR) [of El Salvador]. They noted the slowness in the legal process, since more than six months have passed since a report revealed that more than 30 journalists had been tapped using Pegasus software, and just now are some steps being taken.

In January, the Association of Journalists of El Salvador (APES, by its Spanish acronym), filed two notices with the Attorney General's Office so the cyber crime would be investigated, as well as the hacking of journalists' WhatsApp accounts. In addition, in March, APES directors and a legal representative attended a summons in the Attorney General's Office, where they presented new evidence about the cyber crime via Pegasus software, to spy on journalists.
