Journalists were rammed by a vehicle while carrying out coverage in Peru

“Pedro Vaca, Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), condemned this Sat. Jan. 6, the attempted murder of two journalists from the San Martin region [Peru], who were rammed by a van that chased them while carrying out news coverage in the province of Bellavista.

Press and Society Institute (IPYS, by its Spanish acronym) and the National Journalists Association (Bellavista - San Martín branch) reported that the victims were Luis Agustín Angulo Díaz, of La Ribereña radio station, who remains seriously ill in a hospital, and Pablo Torres Putpaña.

According to witnesses, 'the van had the clear aim of threatening the lives of the journalists,' whose reporting 'questioned the administration of the former mayor of the Municipality of Bellavista, Eduar Guevara Gallardo.’ They demanded that this line of inquiry be considered in the investigation, IPYS said. The institute also demanded immediate investigation of the facts.”
