Man sentenced to 12 years in prison for death of Brazilian cameraman

"Craftsman Caio Silva de Souza, accused of having lit the firecracker that caused the death of [Brazilian] cameraman Santiago Andrade in 2014, was sentenced to 12 years in prison, but could be eligible for house arrest later.

Despite the penalty, the decision was celebrated by the defense. 'They always trusted the decision of the jurors in Rio de Janeiro. The Sentencing Council recognized that there was no proof that Caio had the intention or took the risk of killing the cameraman Santiago,' it wrote in a note.

The other person accused, tattoo artist Fabio Raposo Barbosa, was acquitted by the Sentencing Council of the 3rd Jury Court of Rio de Janeiro. He was alleged to have found the artifact during a demonstration in the center of the capital of Rio de Janeiro."
