“Journalist Raymundo Riva Palacio obtained a definitive amparo judgment against the statements made at the [morning press conferences known as] 'mañaneras' of former [Mexican] President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. A judge ruled in favor of the appeal filed by the columnist, who claimed violation of his human rights.
Riva Palacio said that he filed this appeal after [...] the former president referred to him as a 'brazen cretin' for a newspaper column he wrote in which he criticized 'mercenary YouTubers'.
[...]
Magistrate Fernando Silva granted the revocation of the sentence and granted the amparo ‘because we consider that the verbal order to create the section ’Who's who in the lies?' and the denigrations of the president to the detriment of the plaintiff, violate the principle of legality and the human rights of the journalist.'
For the above reasons, the amparo was granted to the journalist, stating that the 'mañaneras' affected Raymundo Riva Palacio's honor, personal data, private life and freedom of the press. [...] This is the first amparo won by a journalist against former President López Obrador.”
