"A case of alleged violation of freedom of expression has sparked outrage in the state of Puebla. Journalist María Luisa Ruiz was detained by municipal police officers in Santiago Miahuatlán after being accused of 'usurping authority.' The detention occurred while the journalist was live-streaming and documenting police activity during an arrest on a public street.

The incident went viral on social media, where the reporter can be seen confronting an officer who demanded official identification from the media outlet she works for. Despite identifying herself as a member of the press, the officers proceeded with the arrest, arguing that the woman could not prove her journalistic credentials at that moment.

Given the seriousness of the incident, the Government of the State of Puebla issued an official statement expressing its absolute rejection of any form of threat or coercion against the exercise of journalism. The state's Ministry of the Interior reported that it is already providing support to María Luisa Ruiz."
