"Oaxacan journalist and head of the news site OM Noticias, Óscar Merino Ruiz, was shot and wounded in an attack Tuesday night in Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, a town on Oaxaca’s coast, the National Forum of Journalists and Communicators confirmed.
The shooting took place in a public area and left him seriously injured. He was taken to a health clinic, where he remains under medical care.
'This constitutes a direct attack on the practice of journalism and adds to the climate of violence facing the press in the state,' the forum said."
