“Organizations Article 19 - Office for Mexico and Central America, and Comunicación e Información de la Mujer A.C. (CIMAC) make an urgent call to the authorities of the federal government [of Mexico] and the state of Morelos to safeguard the life and integrity of Yohali Reséndiz, writer and independent journalist, who was the victim of death threats and sexual violence by unknown persons in Morelos.
On Nov. 28, around 2:00 p.m., Reséndiz received a threat and an intimidating video through the WhatsApp messaging application. The video showed a corpse. Hours later, in a phone call from an unknown number, an individual told her 'stop publishing bullshit' and threatened to rape her and 'tear her to pieces.' The journalist denounced these facts through her social media accounts.

These aggressions occur in addition to a history of violence that the journalist has suffered in recent years due to her journalistic work. According to Reséndiz, these aggressions have occurred after publication of investigations in which she has exposed corruption in the state government of Morelos, mainly, and in other agencies such as the Coordination of Mobility and Transportation of the state.”
