"[Mexican] President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said this Thursday (Sept. 5) that in his government there have been no murders of journalists or politicians 'beyond what the circumstances have caused,' despite the fact that the organization Article 19 has documented 47 homicides of communicators in the six-year period.

Questioned during his press conference about the achievements of his government, which ends on Sept. 30, the president pointed out that there are three things of which he is proud: the fight against corruption, the reduction of poverty and that there has been no murders of journalists and politicians, according to his perspective.

The organization Article 19 documented that since December 2018, when the López Obrador administration began, 47 communicators have been murdered in the country for their work, the same number as in the government of Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018)."
