Mexico: 40% of crimes against journalists are committed by state and municipal authorities

"Forty percent of the aggressions, threats and even homicides committed against journalists in Mexico come from state and municipal authorities, acknowledged Enrique Irazoque Palazuelos, head of the Unit for the Defense of Human Rights.

During his visit to Sinaloa, where an agreement was signed with the state government to guarantee the defense mechanism for journalists and activists, the federal official said there is still a need to work on safeguarding the members of the thick pen, given that almost 40 percent of the aggressors are members of some form of government, whether municipal or state."
