Mexico: Journalists from Jalisco assaulted after covering road accident; three individuals are arrested

"During coverage of a road accident in Zapopan, several journalists from Jalisco, Mexico were physically assaulted and had their recording equipment destroyed. Three individuals were arrested for these acts, while the state Attorney General's Office initiated the corresponding investigation to clarify what happened.

It was on the night of Dec. 5, around 8:00 p.m., when two private vehicles collided on Universidad Avenue at its intersection with Juan Palomar y Arias, in the Virreyes neighborhood. Traffic police and the media were on the scene to document the accident.

The relatives of the victims were already in the area talking to their respective insurance companies. However, when they noticed the presence of the journalists and saw that they were recording what was happening, they became annoyed and began to verbally assault them. The conflict escalated to such an extent that the two journalists were beaten by at least three individuals."
