Mexico continues to lead Latin America in murders of journalists, according to RSF

“Mexico remains the most dangerous country in the region for journalism, warned Reporters Without Borders (RSF, for its acronym in French), in an article in which it reported that since January 2025, it has documented the murders of eight journalists in the country, out of a total of thirteen homicides recorded in Latin America.

'Despite the president’s commitments and the establishment of dedicated protection mechanisms, Mexico remains the most dangerous country in the region for journalists,' the organization said.

In its report, RSF noted that 'in July, three new murders in less than a week brought Mexico’s total up to nine since January — eight of which are believed to be linked to the victims' journalism.'"
