"Unidentified men assaulted Mexican journalist Alain Albarrán Granados on Thursday [April 6]. He covers issues of violence, particularly against women, in Oaxaca, in the south of the country. The reporter at the radio station La Poderosa 100.5 FM and the newspaper El Imparcial de Oaxaca was hit in the face and body as he was leaving work in the center of the municipality of Tlaxiaco, in the Mixteca region of Oaxaca.
The 36 year-old journalist attributed the 'cowardly aggression' to his coverage of violence against women. Cases of violence against women increased in the region during the first quarter of this year, when 33 women were murdered.
Journalist organizations in Oaxaca released a statement saying that the victim was beaten by a person who approached his vehicle. The organization also said that later, other people, whom the journalist identified as relatives of his first aggressor, also attacked him."
