"Journalist, student and land activist Abisaí Pérez Romero was found dead in Tula, [state of] Hidalgo, confirmed on Thurs. [Feb. 16] the organization Article 19 and the Autonomous University of Mexico City (UACM, by its acronym in Spanish). Article 19 pointed to a possible murder, while the Hidalgo State Attorney General's Office said that there are no signs that Pérez Romero was murdered.
'It is with deep sorrow that we announce that on Feb. 14 the lifeless body of our fellow Abisaí Pérez Romero, a student of the Communication and Culture program at our university, was found in the municipality of Tula, Hidalgo,' the UACM said in a statement.
Separately, Article 19 said that Abisaí Pérez Romero had disappeared since Feb. 12.
'We demand that the Hidalgo Attorney General's Office investigate in a prompt, impartial and diligent manner by applying the standard protocol to investigate crimes committed against freedom of expression and to determine the cause of murder,' Article 19 said on its Twitter account."
