"This Wed. Jan. 26 in the morning, after a car chase, armed individuals shot at the Oaxacan journalist José Ignacio Santiago Martínez, when he was on his way to the city of Juchitán, in the region of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the victim confirmed to EL UNIVERSAL, the Ombudsman for Human Rights of the People of Oaxaca (DDHPO) and the Attorney General of the State of Oaxaca (FGEO).
According to preliminary information, the attack was prevented by escorts who traveled with the journalist and had been assigned to him by the Federal Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists. The incident happened on the Yosonicaje-Tlaxiaco highway, in the Mixteca region."
