Mexico: Journalist is attacked during coverage in Oaxaca

"Javier Santiago, a reporter for El Imparcial de Oaxaca and the websites Oaxaca Vial and Noticias al Instante, suffered a physical attack and the destruction of his work equipment while covering an alleged lynching for kidnapping in the municipality of San Juan Guelavia, located 39 kilometers [about 25 miles] from the Oaxacan capital.

According to his brother, Alejandro Santiago, also a reporter, the journalist was documenting an alleged lynching of a woman by villagers who, upon realizing that he was a journalist, attacked him and left him unconscious on the ground.

In addition to the physical aggression, the locals, annoyed by the journalist's work, snatched his work equipment and burned it."
