"The Red Nacional de Periodistas, Comunicación e Información de la Mujer A.C. (Cimac) and Article 19 express our concern about the aggressions against journalists Paulina Millán and Carolina Fernández, both from the newspaper El Popular, in the state of Puebla.
Journalist Paulina Millán was intimidated by the company BHIP after covering a conference. Carolina Fernández was publicly accused of defamation and threatened with legal action for mentioning a public official in a column.
The organizations would like to remind the Mexican state that according to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), in the face of violence against the press, 'States have the duty to investigate, prosecute and punish all perpetrators of crimes against journalists, both material and intellectual, as well as participants, collaborators and abettors.'"
