"The Ministry of the Interior (Segob) incorporated journalist Froylán Méndez Ferrer to the Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists, after the kidnapping and torture suffered by his son in December 2022. [...] The son of journalist Froylán Méndez was 'lifted' from the vicinity of San Antonio de la Cal by individuals traveling in three vehicles. He was tortured during the time he was held and interrogated by a member of the Oaxacan Radio and Television Corporation (CorTV, by its Spanish acronym). [...] Although Froylán Méndez said that he does not have sufficient proof to say the kidnapping and torture of his son was related to his journalistic activity, he did say it was probably in response to some work he published in his news outlet Sin Censura [Uncensored]."
