"In Mexico, investigations into crimes of disappearance, homicide and threats to human rights defenders and journalists lack due diligence, warned the Mexico Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN-OHCHR).

Between January 2019 and September 2023, the office documented the murders of 41 journalists, six media workers and 91 defenders. Additionally it documented the disappearances of 13 people: eight defenders and five journalists.

Of the 150 cases, the UN-OHCHR alleged that the Mexican State did not comply with protection and risk prevention; in more than 30 percent of the cases, complaints were presented that were not adequately processed or considered."
