More than 400 instances of misinformation in Venezuela after presidential election, report says

“Medianálisis and its partners Cotejo.info and the Venezuelan Fake News Observatory present a quali-quantitative analysis of disinformation in Venezuela and its milestones from July 2024 to February 2025 with the purpose of contextualizing how the country is increasingly marked by the precariousness and shrinking of its media ecosystem.

[...] Only between July 2024 and February 2025 at least 421 instances of misinformation were reported; in the bimester July-August 108 instances were recorded; in the last four-month period of the year there were 248 records; and in the first two-month period of 2025, 65 instances were recorded. Of the 421 false instances, 28% were detected on Facebook, 26% on X, 25% on WhatsApp, and on other platforms (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Threads) 21% were recorded.

According to the records, 171 hoaxes contain general disinformation or incorporate several types, 88 account for misrepresentations of events, while 60 are considered misleading due to the decontextualization of information. Disinformative instances that victimize and drive fear or hatred towards a third party represent 34% of the records [...]”.
