Carlos Angulo, alleged leader of Los Lobos gang, and Laura Castilla were sentenced to 34 years and eight months in prison for leading the hit.

The 59-year-old politician and investigative journalist was shot upon leaving an electoral event in Quito, days before the first round of the presidential elections was held in August of last year. Villavicencio uncovered several corruption scandals that affected senior officials, including some from the government of former President Rafael Correa (2007-2017)."
