"The National Assembly of Nicaragua approved on Thursday [Jan, 16] articles of an amendment to the Political Constitution, which establish that authorities will check that the media does not spread false news that infringe on the rights of citizens. Many journalists consider this an attack on freedom of the press.
The constitutional amendment, approved unanimously in a second and final vote, also empowers the government of Nicaragua to check that the media are not subject to foreign interests."
