"Jennifer Ortiz, a Nicaraguan journalist who became a naturalized Spanish citizen and is the director of the Nicaragua Investiga platform [living in Costa Rica], reported on Wednesday [Nov. 12] that, after receiving death threats, Costa Rican authorities recommended she abandon journalism and delete the content of her work in the media outlet she has directed for almost eight years, as well as her social media accounts.
'Due to certain threats and warnings I received, a few weeks ago I went to the Costa Rican authorities. Their response: a risk "analysis" with one recommendation: to retire from journalism, delete all the work done by Nicaragua Investiga in these almost 8 years, and also delete my personal social media accounts,' recounted the Nicaraguan journalist who was stripped of her [Nicaraguan] citizenship in February 2023.
According to the director of Nicaragua Investiga, the Witness Protection Unit of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Costa Rica recommended that she 'go into hiding and never comment on anything on any digital platform.'"
