Nine arrested for murder of journalist María Elena Ferral in Mexico in 2020

"In the Zero Impunity report this Tuesday [June 13], the undersecretary of Security and Citizen Protection [of Mexico], Luis Rodríguez Bucio, highlighted the 30-year prison sentence to Nicasio N, for the intentional homicide of journalist María Elena Ferral Hernández on March 30, 2020.

During President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's morning conference, the former general commander of the National Guard pointed out that four people have already been sentenced, four are in the intermediate stage and one is in the initial stage, with nine arrested for the events that took place outside a notary's office in the city of Papantla [state of Veracruz].

The others sentenced, also to 30 years in prison, are Alfredo, Othoniel and Carlos N. While those captured and in criminal proceedings are Luis, Antonio, Alfredo Ernesto, Efraín (former mayor of Papantla) and José, the latter a reporter and María Elena's partner."
