"Javier Arturo Valdez Cárdenas was nationally and internationally recognized for his crónicas and investigations, in which he reported the violence in his home state of Sinaloa, Mexico. He practiced journalism in the midst of the prevailing violence in Mexico and confronted, through his pen, corruption, political power and drug trafficking. For Javier, self-censorship was never an option.
On the occasion of the sixth anniversary of his death, national and international organizations, family members and the weekly Ríodoce demand greater responsibility from the Mexican state to not allow impunity. The authorities must redouble their efforts through their respective competencies to ensure that this case, six years later, is fully clarified. Although significant progress has been made in the investigation by the Special Prosecutor's Office for Crimes against Freedom of Expression (FEADLE, by its Spanish acronym), it is still pending that the intellectual author be brought before the Mexican courts."
