Observatory of violence against journalists is created in Mexican university

"(Dec. 14, 2021) At the crossroads of protests of Jalisco journalists against Governor Enrique Alfaro, the University of Guadalajara has created the Observatory on Freedom of Expression and Violence against Journalists.

The rector of the Guadalajara University (UdeG, by its acronym in Spanish), Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, said it is the university's to defend and support the work of those who practice journalism.

"Without journalism there is no democracy, without truthful information, without free journalists, with harassment towards the media. We see intolerance, close-mindedness and how social networks are privileged from a place of anonymity to confuse society," he said.

He again condemned the attacks allegedly carried out by the governor of Jalisco against reporters who do their journalistic work."
