One year after shooting against Mexican journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva, there are no convictions or leads on the mastermind

"On Dec. 15, 2022, Ciro Gómez Leyva was driving home after a day of work. The journalist, one of the most popular in Mexico, had just finished presenting the evening news on Imagen TV network. He was driving through Coyoacán Avenue, south of Mexico City, when a motorcycle with two people passed him. One of them turned around, pulled out a gun, pointed it at his head, opened fire. […] Gómez Leyva found himself trembling but unharmed. The armor of his vehicle had stopped the bullets.

The calendar has completed a full cycle this Friday. 'One year later, I still have the same questions I had 365 days ago: I don't know who ordered me killed, I don't know why,' the presenter said over the phone. In this time, 14 people implicated in the crime have been arrested: 13 in Mexico, one more in the United States. Even so, there are still no convictions or leads to the masterminds of the attack. Uncertainty and stagnation prevail in the case."
