Organizations demand Mexican State take action in face of increase in violence against press in Tamaulipas

"During the last two weeks ARTICLE 19, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Propuesta Cívica and Reporters Without Borders (RSF) documented a series of attacks against journalists and media outlets in the state of Tamaulipas, highlighting a worrying increase in the violence experienced in the area.

Three journalists, two reporters and a cameraman, whose names are being withheld for security reasons, were victims of physical violence while covering the blockades of the Pedro J. Méndez Armed Column and their confrontations with security elements in Ciudad Victoria. According to the journalists' account to the organizations, although they tried to keep their distance from the members of the Column, they closed in on them with a van near El Barretal, on the outskirts of Ciudad Victoria. The three journalists were in a shared vehicle when the assailants caught up with them and blocked their path. They got out and beat the three journalists and took their phones from two of them and threw them to the ground, damaging them irreparably.”
