The organizations Article 19 Office for Mexico and Central America, Freedom House, Free Press Unlimited (FPU), Protection International Mesoamérica, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Fundamedios and the Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP, by its Spanish acronym), in alliance with the regional networks IFEX-ALC and Voces del Sur carried out a mission to observe freedom of expression and press freedom in Guatemala.
From May 3 to 17, the team conducted interviews with journalists and analysts in different parts of the country, as well as with people in exile.
The report presented on June 22, prior to the elections, shows the findings and conclusions of what was observed during the mission. It also details the challenges and causes of the current situation of freedom of expression in the country.
