“Judge América Vergara revoked a ‘protection order’ requested by brothers Roberto and Ramón Carretero Napolitano, which prevented journalist Sabrina Bacal from reporting on their activities.
The order had been in effect since November 6, when it was issued by Isela Mela Peralta, deputy prosecutor of the section for crimes against freedom, honor, the administration of justice, and the internal personality of the State.
The protection order (now suspended) also imposed restrictions on the journalistic work of Venezuelan Roberto Deniz, of the media outlet Armando Info, the website Praxis, and others. All have been sued by the Carreteros for alleged libel and slander.
The Carreteros have been major government contractors and have been accused in high-profile cases, such as the Odebrecht bribery scandal. Additionally, last December, they were included in the sanctions list of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Department of the Treasury, for his ties to Nicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan regime.”
