"A sentencing court on Wednesday sentenced Paraguayan media commentator Carlos Granada Fernández to 10 years in prison for the alleged crimes of abuse, coercion and sexual coercion, following a case brought in 2022 by six women journalists who had worked under his supervision.
The panel — Judges Laura Ocampo, Cándida Fleitas and Juan Pablo Mendoza — issued the conviction after six months of proceedings and in response to a request from the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
'The tribunal, in the name of the Republic of Paraguay, considers the 10-year prison sentence fair and revokes the alternative measures to pretrial detention,' Fleitas said.
Granada, who was present at the hearing, told reporters he is 'innocent' and said he will appeal the ruling to higher courts.
