Paraguayan Journalists Union repudiates use of private data to attack journalists

“'The Paraguayan Journalists Union (SPP, for its acronym in Spanish) strongly repudiates the use of private data of journalists by sectors linked to the ruling party, in order to disqualify and intimidate them,' the organization said in a statement issued this Tuesday [Sept. 17 ].

In particular, it referred to the 'leak of information obtained from the Commission of Investigation on Money Laundering related to journalists, which represents a serious attack on freedom of expression and the right to carry out journalistic work.' It said this attack 'not only undermines the integrity and privacy of information professionals, but also constitutes a direct threat to the democratic principles that govern Paraguay and 'must be guaranteed.'"
