"On Nov. 18, the Peruvian judiciary added another sentence to Vladimiro Montesinos, the former spy chief of former President Alberto Fujimori, for abducting a renowned journalist in 1992 during the shut-down of Congress and the suspension of democracy.
The sentence of 17 years in prison will be added to the more than 30 sentences for multiple murders, corruption and even the illegal sale of weapons to the disappeared Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. This sentence falls on Montesinos, a 76-year-old lawyer and ex-military man, who has been imprisoned since 2001.
The National Supreme Court of Specialized Criminal Justice imposed this new sentence on Montesinos for coordinating, together with officers of the armed forces, the abduction of Peruvian journalist Gustavo Gorriti, as well as several politicians at the time. Another 12 former members of the military were also convicted."
