"The delegations of the United Nations Organization (UN), European Union (EU) and the Embassies of the United States, United Kingdom and Canada in Peru reassured on Nov. 11 that they would defend freedom of expression after the controversial conviction for defamation handed down by a judge against journalist Christopher Acosta and editor Jerónimo Pimentel.
The ruling has caused widespread outrage in Peru by ruling in favor of businessman and politician César Acuña, who sued Acosta and Pimentel for the book "Plata como cancha," a biographical profile of the leader of the center-right Alianza Para el Progreso (APP) party, that focuses on the most controversial stories of his life."
