In October 1991, Alfaro was 23 years old and was head of information for the weekly Cambio, a news outlet that had questioned the Fujimori government on several occasions. On the 10th of that month, at her workplace, the young woman received an envelope addressed to the news outlet director and containing 200 grams of ambo-gelatin, an explosive material that detonated and caused her death."
