Peruvian journalist survives shooting attack at home after receiving threats

"The journalist Carlos Alarcón, who works for Amazonia TV, survived a shooting at his home, whose front was tageted with firearms on Saturday, June 21, 2025, after receiving threats on his cell phone.

The International Federation of Journalists joins the National Association of Journalists of Peru (ANP for its initials in Spanish) in its absolute repudiation of this attack and calls for a prompt investigation to find the perpetrators and for protective measures to guarantee Alarcón's safety, right to work and freedom of expression.

The ANP indicated that the intervening police officers collected 13 shell casings as evidence of the attack on the colleague's home. Alarcón told the union that had previous threats related to his reporting and investigations on local political authorities."
