"On Thursday, Dec. 5, the team of legal representatives of the Legal First Aid Clinic (CPAJ, for its initials in Spanish) of the Association of Journalists of El Salvador (APES), approached the Attorney General's Office (FGR) to verify the legal process against journalist Mónica Rodríguez and Steve Magaña, who were victims of an irregular raid the night of last Wednesday, Dec. 4.

The FGR denied the CPAJ team all information despite the fact that a power of attorney was presented and that there was a search warrant against Rodríguez and Magaña, who work for Bálsamo Radio TV and stand out as human rights defenders in the communities of the Cordillera del Bálsamo, in La Libertad.

The operation was carried out by agents of the National Civil Police (PNC) who traveled in vehicles with private plates, without visible identification and with their faces covered. The agents claimed that the case was confidential, refusing to offer details about the motive or the complaint that supported the action.

[...]

PNC agents seized electronic equipment such as computers, hard drives and cell phones, as well as documentation with personal information and electronic equipment from the media for which they work."
