"This Friday, May 3, the president [of Chile] Gabriel Boric led the inauguration of the 31st World Press Freedom Day Conference at the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center. During his speech, two of the attendees rebuked him, remembering the case of Francisca Sandoval, a reporter for Diseño 3 de La Victoria, murdered on May 1, 2022 in a demonstration.
While Boric was making his speech, the director of that media outlet, Benjamín Lillo, who was accredited for the event, raised his voice and interrupted the president. 'In a march in the heart of Santiago, where nine people shot with firearms, Carabineros de Chile did not act,' he began by saying.
'The Ministry of the Interior, which is part of the complaint, has not requested any proceeding or investigation to find justice for our murdered journalist colleague. And they are talking to us about freedom of expression and freedom of the press. It's a mockery, Mr. President,' he said"
