"Last year, 639 attacks against journalists were recorded, which represents one attack every 14 hours and a 13.9% increase compared to 2023, according to Article 19.
In its annual report, 'Information Barriers: Challenges to Freedom of Expression and Access to Information,' the international organization indicated that Mexico is trapped in an information crisis that threatens to undermine its democratic foundations.
'Violence against the press, opacity, state surveillance, official ignorance and institutional weakening create a scenario of regression in fundamental rights,' it said."
