Professional group denounces court's treatment of infirm Venezuelan journalist

"The Capital District branch of the National College of Journalists of Venezuela (CNP, for its Spanish acronym) reported on its official X account that a court hearing for journalist Ramón Centeno concluded on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, without a final decision being issued in his case.

The professional organization described the process as cruel and unnecessary, considering the journalist's serious health condition.

The hearing was postponed until March 4, even though Centeno, who requires urgent surgery, appeared before the court weakened and with clear physical limitations.

After being detained for almost four years on charges that various organizations have deemed arbitrary, Centeno was released on Jan. 14, 2026, amid a wave of political prisoner releases in Venezuela. However, his legal proceedings have not concluded and continue to face delays."
