Prosecutor's Office in Campeche, Mexico, asks network to provide information of journalists critical of governor

"The Prosecutor's Office of the State of Campeche [in Mexico] sent an official letter to [media outlet] Producciones Telemar, S.A. de C.V., requesting the names of the journalists and editors responsible for critical articles about the governor [of the ruling party Morena] Layda Sansores, as well as the name of its general director, on the grounds of compiling an investigative file for alleged defamation.

The document, received on Oct. 15, warns that if the company does not provide the information within five business days, financial penalties and legal proceedings could be imposed, which has been interpreted as an attempt to control and censor local media.

According to Telemar, the prosecutor's request is one of a series of actions taken by the state government against critical media outlets, including the newspaper Tribuna de Campeche, which faces precautionary measures restricting the publication of content about the governor."
