"The Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), Pedro Vaca, visited journalist José Rubén Zamora Marroquín this Monday [Feb. 12] in a prison in Guatemala, where he has been detained since July 29, 2022.
According to the IACHR, Rapporteur Vaca is in Guatemala at the invitation of the government of the new president, Bernardo Arévalo de León, to verify the state of freedom of expression in the Central American country.
This Monday [Feb. 12] Vaca entered the prison located in the Mariscal Zavala military barracks, in the north of the Guatemalan capital, to verify how Zamora Marroquín is. The journalist benefited from precautionary measures from the IACHR in July 2023."
