Relatives of Venezuelan journalist plead for her release after 40 days of 'arbitrary detention'

"Relatives of journalist Ana Carolina Guaita, correspondent for La Patilla, who was arbitrarily detained on August 20 in La Guaira, are demanding her immediate release after more than a month of her arrest.

Politician Xiomara Barreto, Guaita’s mother, posted on social media, reminding the public that Guaita is also a 'prominent athlete' and certified powerbike instructor, emphasizing that she is not a 'terrorist,' as accused by the prosecutor’s office simply for reporting on the events of July 29 in Vargas state during post-election protests.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights reported on August 27 that protective precautionary measures were granted to journalist Ana Carolina Guaita, considering that she is in a situation of 'serious and urgent risk of irreparable harm to her rights' in Venezuela."
